Commonly Asked Questions about Pathfinders

What is Pathfinders?

Pathfinders is a co-ed scouting program sponsored by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for children in grades 5-12.We participate in an active in-door and out-door program similar to the Boy Scouts. The club is considered to be a "lab". A place where children can experiment with growing up in a safe Christ centered environment. Pathfinders is a world wide organization with thousands of members in more the 150 countries around the world.

The Glendale Pathfinder Club started in 1948. Members had been meeting for two years but did not have a name. When Mr Paulson the club director heard about the Pathfinder Club that formed in Orange County California He suggested the Glendale organization take on the name. We have had an active Pathfinder Club ever since that time.

When and where do the GLENDALE PATHFINDERS meet?

The Glendale Pathfinders meet on most Tuesdays during our regular schedule at 6:45 p.m. at the Glendale Adventist Community Center located at 311 Vallejo Drive in Glendale, California. Our meetings usually run until 8:45 in the evening.

How do I enroll my child in the GLENDALE PATHFINDERS?

Our Registration night for the 2003-2004 year is set for Tuesday, September 2, 2003. Please come to our registration night to enroll your child. On this night we will be ordering uniforms, informing parents of upcomming yearly events, paying registration, which is $35, among many other things.

Can my child participate in summer activities before he/she is enrolled?

The answer to this is absolutely. Use the summer activities for your child to get involved and make friends before the year starts. Encourage your child to attend so they can be motivated for the upcomming year.

If registration night has past, can my child still enroll in the GLENDALE PATHFINDERS?

Absolutely! We should be putting up a registration form shortly. Children are welcome to join any time throughout the year. Registration will be as always, $35.

If my child isn't 10 yrs old by September 2, can they still enroll in the Glendale Pathfinders?

Generally the child needs to be 10 years old by registration but as long as the child is in the 5th grade or will be 10 by December of that same year, we can usually make the exception for your child. If this isn't the case, we also have an excellent ADVENTURER club which will be more suited for your child. Most of the time, maturity is a factor that we consider.
What does the Registration fee of $35 go toward?
Your $35 serves as dues for honor classes along with the weekly $1 your child will be paying at every regular Tuesday meeting. At this time of payment, your child will also receive a blue PATHFINDER T-SHIRT which should be worn whenever a Field Uniform or Class B uniform is required. This fee also covers the costs of honor patches given to the child after their completion of the approved honor classes.
What class would my child be in if he/she is 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14?
Our FRIENDS are the children who are either 10 years old or are in the 5th grade. Our COMPANIONS are the children who are either 11 years old or are in the 6th grade. Our EXPLORERS are the children who are either 12 years old or are in the 7th grade. Our RANGERS are the children who are either 13 years old or are in the 8th grade. Our VOYAGERS are the children who are either 14 or are in the 9th grade. Our GUIDES are the children who are either 15 or are in the 10th grade. And lastly, our MASTER GUIDES need to be at least 16 years old. The optional program that we do offer is called TLT which is short for Teen Leadership Training is offered for teens of 13 years and older.
How can I become a volunteer staff member at the GLENDALE PATHFINDERS?
All Pathfinder leaders are Christians. Their belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ motivates them to spend time ministering to youth. By their teaching and example they show what it means to be a living, vibrant Christian in Today's world.

Working hand in hand with parents, teachers, and pastors, Pathfinder leaders provide optimum opportunities for Christian development. They consider the Pathfinder Club to be an extension ofthe home, school, and church, an experimental laboratory where growth and learning flourish, an environment where failure is not expected but becomes a tool for learning.
